This expression uses the java literals for integers. In order for doubles to become important for this question you would have to explicitly write a cast, but the expression for the question does not contain any casts. Even if you wrote:
double x = 5 + 2 / 3 + 1;.
x is still going to be
6.0. Things change if you write something like
5 + (double) 2 / 3 + 1;, however, at this point you have a different expression from the one in the question.
I'd try out different variations of that expression in the sandbox to get a better understanding of this java behavior.
