Thanks for your post and thanks for using CodeHS! I’m Jeremy - I’m the CEO and co-founder at CodeHS. These are good questions so I want to help and also give a few answers. Also so you know - there are 7,000 classrooms using CodeHS every month and thousands of teachers on Free so I promise there’s a lot you can do the whole year for free! (There’s also a lot more on Pro if your school or district wants to sign up )
Course Pacing Guides
We see teachers do a number of different things here. On the Free accounts you can click in to students accounts to see their progress and view their code. You can go to the roster page, and then click into a student page.
On the Pro accounts we have custom progress tracking tools that lets you track data by lesson, activity and module and configure it. See more about progress tracking: https://codehs.com/info/features/progress_tracking
There are many ways to do grades, and this depends on your class. My comment here would be geared towards full courses. You can do some part of the grade based on program completion, some based on assessments (unit quizzes and final projects) and some percentage based on participation. You may also want a part of the grade for the programs you personally review. On the Pro plan we have a gradebook that does this all automatically and can be exported. See more on the gradebook here: https://codehs.com/info/features/gradebook and here: http://help.codehs.com/teacher-tools-and-resources/how-does-the-gradebook-work
Hope this helps!
