I’m starting my third year teaching computer science (last year I had two AP CS Principles sections and an AP CS A after-school club, this year I have two AP CS Principles and will have two AP CS A running concurrently. I have no textbooks, no workbooks, no paid curriculum, and the computers are constantly having technical issues.
I’ve paid out of pocket for online programs and video courses for my students to use, and I’d be willing to pay out of my own pockets to get some of the features of paid CodeHS, but $2500 is basically an entire month’s paycheck so it isn’t feasible.
The way features from the free version have been stripped little by little has been frustrating so I probably won’t make use of it in class, but I’m glad it is still there since I can ask students to work on it for extra credit.
That said, I would love for CodeHS to have a plan for teacher’s paying out of pocket, maybe for those in Title I schools or something.
