For the one semester classes this year, I have a tiered final depending on the grade students want to get. They can look at the problems and decide what they want to attempt.
To receive a grade of 100 on the final they create the basics of a rudimentary hangman game. Choose letters for a basic word (with no repeated letters), print out the letters in correct order if correct, in the guessed letters box if wrong, with a hangman being made in graphics.
To receive a B, I use a couple supplementary exercises: Fizz Buzz and Find the Max and draw the hangman for the hangman problem, using 6 functions for each body part (as a catapult for those who continue on to see how they can use the functions next semester in a more complete game).
