Hi everyone, my background is in programming (as a paid programmer from about 1987 - 2001 and now as a programming teacher for the past two years). Our district is considering adding AP Computer Science Principles to our HS course offerings, but I am concerned about the course content that falls outside the area of coding. When I look at the official AP website and course description, it seems pretty overwhelming. It looks as if I’d have to get a lot of additional training to cover those non-programming areas. But when I look at the modules listed for the CodeHS course in AP Computer Science Principles, it looks much more manageable for me.
So my question is, how much of a stretch would it be for someone like me, who is specialized in coding? Would a lot of extra training be required for the non-programming areas? And does the CodeHS course pretty much cover everything that needs to be done in the course, or must I supplement it with a lot of additional content (assignments, tests, etc.)?
Thanks for any information you can provide!
